Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister (Education) Kadiyam Srihari, has called upon the students to utilize the South India Science fair as a forum to showcase their innovations related to science, maths and environmental science, which may in turn useful to the human beings in future.

The Deputy CM was speaking after inaugurating the five-day Southern India Science Fair-2018 at St.Patriks High School in Secunderabad along with Deputy CM Mohammed Mahmood Ali and Home Minister Nayini Narsimha Reddy on Monday.

Kadiam said science fairs were intended to expose the latent talent among students, apart from inculcating scientific temper among them. The minister urged the union government to allot adequate funds to organize science fairs from district level to national level and also establish new research centers to facilitate new generation to take up more research projects.

Citing the example of former president Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, he said young generation should emulate the path shown by missile man and bring laurels to the nation by inventing innovative methods in science and technology.

Outlining the progress made by the government in the field education, he said that the Telangana government has established 544 residential schools, 475 KGBVS and 194 model schools and ranked itself as No.1 in the country.

The national average per 1 lakh students is 29 colleges, while in Telangana it is 59 colleges per 1 lakh students, which is considered to be noteworthy in the entire country.

Mohamood Ali, in his speech, said only a few students ranked as highly talented could become scientists, while average talented will grow as doctors and leaders. He said students should draw inspiration from former president Dr. Kalam to realize their dreams.

Nayini Narasimha Reddy underscored the importance of science fairs and advised the students to participate in large number. He detailed the efforts of government to convert ‘Vishwa Nagaram’ into ‘Vidyanagaram’.

Former union minister and MP Bandaru Dattatreva said he would make necessary efforts to establish one more regional science centre in the state particularly in Hyderabad, if state government is willing to allot 15 to 20 acres of land.

The function was also addressed by Secunderabad MLA G. Sayanna, Special Chief Secretary (Education) Rajeev R. Acharya and other senior officials.

Perini dance performed by disciples of Penni Prakash has enthralled the audience.

In all 229 exhibits on science, maths, environment themes were exhibited in the fair by 475 students and teachers from five states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamilnadu and UT of Puducherry. (INN)
